Empathy II By Way of Curiosity
I wonder if one of the surest paths to empathy isn’t curiosity.
How do we build curiosity en route to empathy?
Audit your questions for an afternoon, an hour, or a conversation.
Write down every question you ask in that time frame.
To whom do you direct questions? To whom do you not?
Who do your questions serve?
Why did you ask them? Why didn’t you ask others?
What do others stand to gain from your questions?
When did you ask them? When did you not?
Where do your questions lead?
Do your answers to these questions align to your values as a leader?
What small tweaks might bring curiosity to a conscious level in your daily interactions?
How does being intentional about curiosity impact your ability to lead with empathy?
